ABOUT US
The kennel name "Westport" was inspired by the historic Westport district in Kansas City, a place we often visited while living outside the metro area. Many weekends were spent packing up the dogs and heading to the Westport Plaza Farmers Market, where we’d browse through local market stands with our dogs by our side. Those mornings were a cherished part of our time in Kansas City, so when it came time to choose a name for our kennel, we knew we wanted to pay tribute to the city. Thus, "Westport Labradors" was born.
We are a small, hobby breeder now located in Princeton, Texas, just outside of McKinney. Westport Labradors consists of my husband and I, and our small pack of Labs. Our dogs are beloved members of our household, where they enjoy lounging on the couch, racing around the yard, and most of all, joining us on the boat for some fun on the water. We are not a kennel facility and tend to keep our numbers small and selective. We carefully plan each litter with the intent of keeping puppies back for ourselves and continuing our established lines.
We breed to preserve the true Labrador Retriever in terms of its history, structure, and temperament. The breed standard serves as our guiding blueprint, distinguishing the Labrador from other breeds. Without the standard, we would lose the breed we know and love completely. Our goal is to produce a healthy, structurally correct dog with a happy, outgoing temperament that proudly represents the Labrador breed.
Each of our dogs undergoes comprehensive health testing, exceeding the OFA CHIC breed requirements, before they're considered for breeding. Furthermore, our dogs participate in AKC conformation shows and a variety of performance sports.
My passion for dogs has been with me since childhood, but my professional journey began in 2019 when I became a certified dog groomer. Shortly after, I welcomed my first dog, a working line German Shepherd, and entered the exciting world of protection sports. I fell in love with training and competitive dog sports, which quickly became a central part of my life. In 2021, I met my mentors at a dog show, and after falling head over heels for their Labradors, I knew I had to have these special dogs in my life. This led me to begin showing Labradors in AKC conformation, marking the start of my adventure in breeding and showing. My husband quickly joined in on the fun and shares the same love and passion for the Labrador breed. You will see him behind the scenes at shows and trials, helping manage our Labrador circus.
I am an active member of the Midwest Labrador Retriever club as well as our local hunting retriever club. Preserving and promoting the integrity of Labrador Retriever is our passion. We constantly strive to do our best for our dogs, our breeding program and for the breed as a whole.
